How to Measure & Order

Most of our curtains are made to suit your window. Here's how to get the right size and order with confidence.

Step 1: Measure your window

Grab a steel measuring tape (the metal kind — fabric tapes stretch). You'll measure two things: width and drop.

Width — how wide your curtain needs to be

Rod width (your order width) +30 cm overlap +30 cm overlap your window

If you already have a curtain rod or track:

  • Measure from one end of the rod to the other.
  • This is your rod width.

If you don't have a rod yet:

  • Measure the window opening width.
  • Add 30–60 cm — this gives you overlap on each side so the curtain covers light gaps when closed. A 1.2 m window with 30 cm overlap each side becomes a 1.8 m rod.

For curtain fullness: the curtain itself should be 1.5×–2× your rod width. So a 1.8 m rod looks best with curtains that are 2.7–3.6 m wide total (across both panels in a pair).

Drop — how long your curtain needs to be

Measure from where the rod will sit (or where it currently sits) down to where you want the curtain to end. Three common drop styles:

  • Floor-skim: Curtain ends 1 cm above the floor. Tidy and most popular. Measure rod-to-floor and subtract 1 cm.
  • Pooling: Curtain pools 5–15 cm onto the floor. Romantic, formal, harder to vacuum around. Measure rod-to-floor and add 5–15 cm.
  • Sill or below-sill: Curtain ends at the windowsill or 10–15 cm below. Suits kitchens, bathrooms, and small windows.

Step 2: Choose your size

Each made-to-measure curtain on the site shows sizes like 110×180 cm or 160×220 cm. The first number is panel width, the second is drop.

If "sold as a pair": the listed width is the total of both panels combined.

If your window doesn't match the listed sizes: see Step 3 below for custom sizing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I measure a window for curtains?

Measure your curtain rod from end to end for the width. If you don't have a rod yet, measure the window opening and add 30 to 60 cm of overlap on each side. For drop, measure from where the rod sits down to where you want the curtain to end.

Can I order a custom size that is not listed?

Yes. Email hello@decoee.com with the product link, your colour choice, your finished width and drop in cm, and your heading preference (hook tape or eyelet). We will reply within 24 hours with a quote.

How long do made-to-measure curtains take to arrive?

Made-to-measure curtains are produced in 2 to 3 weeks, then shipped Australia-wide with tracked delivery. Ready-to-order items dispatch within 2 business days.
